Anuna De Wever Instagram – Personal story
I had a really interesting conversation recently with a good friend, about how personal our activism is.
We constantly discuss responsibility, systems and politics. But the roots of my energy comes from the personal experiences I’ve had and the people in my life.
When I’m on the streets with a microphone shouting for equality, it’s because of the 12 year-old-girl I met in a refugee camp ten years ago, who made me realize how unequal this world is.
When I demand LGBTQ and women’s rights, it’s because I want to be able to walk hand in hand with my partner on the streets, without being harassed.
When I shout for climate justice, it’s because of the friends I made in the Amazon forest, who showed me how the political games in the western world are costing peoples lives.
When I stand up and refuse to be silent, it’s because too many people in my life have tried to silence me.
Going back to our roots and remembering where our activism comes from, and why we do what we do, may often look like anger, but essentially it all comes from a place of love. | Posted on 17/Dec/2021 22:30:31
