Feeling exhausted, experiencing low moods, having to turn to caffeine & sugar to get through the day? Ya I’ve been there. There are a lot of things that can cause these issues but I’ve learned first hand that one of the biggest ones is adrenal dysfunction, aka adrenal fatigues (not a medical term), aka burnout.
A traumatic experience, low grade chronic stress, be it physical, mental or emotional or even food sensitivities can cause it. It’s the dysfunction of your adrenal glands which ultimately means abnormal production of adrenal hormones, especially cortisol.
High levels of cortisol in the body from ongoing stress can also affect the production of certain neurotransmitters like serotonin which can impact your mood. Cortisol also plays an important role in regulating the immune response.
What are some natural ways to combat this? Great question.
-adequate, good quality sleep
-unplugging from social media & work
-scheduling time for fun & relaxation
-breath work, breathing techniques to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system
-getting out in nature
-paying attention to your nutrition & consuming an anti-inflammatory diet.
