May 23rd 7-9 pm- Brooke Smith @therealbrookesmith photography exhibition opening and book signing. Long before Brooke appeared as Catherine Martin in the iconic The Silence of the Lambs, she was one of the Hardcore punk kids hanging out on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Growing up in Rockland County, just north of New York City, Brooke always felt like an outsider. The Lower East Side, Alphabet City and Tompkins Square park is where she found her family. And she always had her trusty Minolta with her. This book, like an intimate family album, documents the day-to-day life of Brooke’s friends and acquaintances as they create and embody a community around Hardcore music. Brooke went on to become a highly respected actor starring in many films and TV shows. But she never forgot her roots, and the people she still calls her family. Brook Smith’s photography exhibition opens on May 23rd and she will be attending to sign copies of her book available to purchase in The Punk Rock Museum’s gift store
