Bruna Abdullah Instagram – Hurricane Katrina not only flooded, but devastated the city of New Orleans on August 29,
2005. Massive evacuations, compromised water and energy supply infrastructure, and much of the city was left uninhabitable for months, as was the search for the missing.
It took about a year to restore main services, but that was nowhere near enough for the city
return to your normal activity.
The post-flooding period included crime, robberies, looting, violence, disease, soil contamination making planting and livestock farming unfeasible, water contamination and also the psychological and traumatic impact on the population.
It took 4 years, a revitalization plan and billions of dollars injected by the government and private institutions for the city to begin to recover.
Just 8 years later, in 2013, a Super Bowl event symbolized the city’s recovery.
Brazil, RS – 2024.
Rio Grande do Sul is 312 times larger than New Orleans and has a population 29.5 times larger.
Today 2/3 of the state is flooded, 80% of the population and more than 350 cities are affected.
I sincerely hope that everyone who spend their holidays in Brazil, who get involved in our politics, who perform on our beaches remember how much we need their help at this moment. | Posted on 09/May/2024 18:49:53
