(…) My body is the body of a woman, and, in the bodies of of other women, I find a union, a fractal, an organised composition of similarities that make me feel I am where I need to be, as if, within the chaos, we were creating a small order…” www.penelopearchive.com

ENG: “Photographer Carlota Guerrero and curator Mariona Valdés join forces in the launch of a project that seeks to ‘reclaim the patriarchal gaze and bring art closer to people.’”

“Taking inspiration from Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Penelopiad’, rather than traditional interpretations of the titular figure, the project is grounded in compelling speculation: how would Penelope herself narrate her own story, had she been granted a voice of her own?”

“Historically, labeling art as ‘feminist’ or tagging it as ‘female artwork’ has resulted in the systemic undervaluing of the diverse and complex artistry of those who identify as women. These labels carry the risk of relegating an artist’s work to the narrow confines of gender stereotypes, reducing its unique and substantial artistic value.”

“Penélope Archive aims to redefine artistic narratives that have been traditionally shaped by patriarchal perspectives. They aspire to reclaim, produce, and preserve what they deem significant, embarking on an act of symbolic restoration.”
