Carol Vorderman Instagram – DO WE NEED BILLIONAIRES?
The Sunday Times Rich List was published last weekend. Rishi Sunak and family are now wealthier than the King.
– Sunaks’ wealth grew by £122 million to £651 million
– mainly due to the growth of value in his wife’s shares in Infosys.
– Infosys has received over £100 million in government contracts while he’s been in parliament.
– Infosys has also been put on a £750 million government framework contract with other companies. We don’t yet know how much of that will go to the company
– It is unquestionable that the value of Infosys has risen due to these contracts
– Sunak’s wife chose a non-nom tax status until discovered by journalists. She chose to pay a flat tax of £30,000 instead of 45% of value of dividends on her shares in Infosys (an Indian based company). She saved an estimated £20 million in tax since he became an MP, with no offer to pay that to HMRC. The system is legal. Since discovery, she has now given up her non-dom tax status.
The right wing always make the argument that we need the super rich so that their taxes are significantly lower than ‘income earners’. I don’t think we do need them.
Here are the facts.
Since 2010 when the Tories took power.
– Austerity was introduced to reduce the National Debt, BUT the National Debt has more than tripled in that time to over £2,600 billion
– we have the highest tax burden since World War Two
– everything we rely on has turned to sh*t – the NHS, transport, energy, rivers, travel, the list is endless
Since 2010, for billionaires it’s a wholly different story
– the number of billionaires in this country has quadrupled
– the combined wealth of the 350 families on Sunday Times list is now £795 billion which is greater than the GDP of Poland
– in the Covid years 2020-2022 the wealth of Billionaires alone rose by £150 BILLION
So they get even wealthier while our lives turn to distress under the Tories. What do you think? | Posted on 21/May/2024 15:25:28
