I was blessed with an extraordinary mother, Angelena, who believed passionately in the value of education and the importance of the arts. She was a teacher, a church organist and produced operettas with her high school students. Loving and strong beyond measure, she reinforced educational opportunities to shield me against circumstances. Her spirit lives on today in me and in the many lives she touched.
