Esther Perel Instagram – In moments when our loved ones confide in us with their pain or struggles, it’s natural to want to leap into action, to fix things, to offer solutions. However, what I’ve found is that true support often begins with a different approach: being an empathic witness.
Rather than rushing to provide answers or solutions, we can instead offer a listening ear and an open heart. When someone shares their feelings or experiences with us, we can respond with curiosity and compassion, inviting them to share more by saying, “Tell me more,” or checking in to see if they wish to continue the conversation. This simple gesture communicates that we’re here to listen, to understand, and to validate their emotions.
Being an empathic witness doesn’t require us to have all the answers or to make the pain disappear. Instead, it’s about holding space for the other person’s emotions, allowing them to express themselves freely without judgment or interruption, to convey that their feelings are valid and worthy of attention, even if all we do is listen. | Posted on 08/May/2024 19:15:42
