Marilyn Mosby was sentenced Thursday for federal mortgage fraud and perjury convictions that had the former State’s Attorney for Baltimore facing up to 40 years in prison.
While federal prosecutors pushed for Mosby to serve at least 20 months in prison, U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby instead issued a sentence of home detention for a year, the Baltimore Sun reported. Mosby also had to give up her condo in Florida, a property that was at the center of the mortgage fraud conviction earlier this year.
Mosby was sentenced after President Joe Biden resisted calls to pardon her from not just herself but also powerful individuals and groups across the country.
Following the sentencing, Mosby appeared emotional and expressed gratitude outside of the federal courthouse in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Now, these children try to reconnect with their childhood despite the deep physical scars.
Whatever else you think of Biden, he has changed the lives of more than 7 million Americans with the broad forgiveness of student loan debt. Throw in the $16 BILLION to HBCUs, $35 insulin and the huge spending on infrastructure, and domestic policywise he has been a game changing president. Just facts. And I say that as someone who has been highly critical of his Mideast policies.

More than 160,000 student loan borrowers are now in line to have their balances canceled, bringing the total amount of debt forgiveness allowed under the Biden administration’s policies to $167 billion, the Education Department announced Wednesday.
With the election months away, President Biden is lauding his administration’s achievements in delivering loan cancellation to nearly 4.8 million people through a mix of existing programs and new policies.
Republicans have remained staunchly opposed to the effort, decrying it as a waste of taxpayers’ money and patently unfair to Americans who never went to college.

Recently, three key pieces of exculpatory evidence that were never turned over to Petitioner’s counsel during the course of Petitioner’s proceedings in State Court have come to light, including (1) a handwritten statement of an eyewitness to the scene of the crime, (2) a photo array identification procedure conducted by state investigators in which the
eyewitness identified another suspect as the “man with dreadlocks,” and (3) an anonymous message on the State police answering machine on April 30, 1998 with a tip that identified that same suspect as a person involved, that they had dreads, and that they had since cut their dreads.

Spain, Norway and Ireland said on Wednesday that they would recognize an independent Palestinian state, a rebuke to Israel over its war in Gaza and its decades of occupation of Palestinian territories.
Although scores of countries have recognized Palestinian statehood, the closely coordinated announcements by the three nations carried added weight amid the growing toll of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, and because most Western European countries have resisted recognizing it.
The moves will likely have little immediate impact on conditions for Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank or in Gaza, where health authorities say that more than 35,000 people have been killed in over seven months of Israeli bombardment and ground combat. But the view in a growing number of capitals that Palestinian statehood cannot wait for a permanent peace deal with Israel amounted to a powerful signal of dwindling international patience with Israel’s policies.

The United Nations’ top court has ordered Israel to immediately halt its controversial military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, further increasing international pressure on Israel over its war against Hamas.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, the Netherlands, said the humanitarian situation in Gaza was “disastrous.”
Rulings by the court are final and binding, but the ICJ doesn’t have a mechanism to enforce them, and they have been ignored in the past.
