I literally screamed my heart out to get this song approved in my voice!
Joi Barua the composer called me for the dubbing, he explained that this song was meant to be a male solo song, Imtiyaz Ali sir felt that the Laila also needs to have a voice, but since the song was male oriented, the scale was extremely high for any female to match, they had tried a lot of singers but none got selected, then my name got recommended, I heard the song, fell in love with it instantly, but I knew this is not going to be easy to retain the expression, vocal texture and the complex composition of my part was tough to do it all at the same time,I had just one option, I asked Joi, “can I scream and sing?” He said go ahead, also the character in the film is as such, so I sang my heart out with all the air in my lungs and ‘O meri Laila’ happened.
