Kani Kusruti Instagram – @kantari_kanmani began her acting career at the Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre. Her theatrical debut was in Baudhayana’s classic farce, “Bhagavadajjukam,” where she played the lead role of Vasantsena from 2000 to 2006. Later, she took on small roles in Malayalam movies before gaining recognition through a segment called “Island Express” in the anthology film ” #KeralaCafe .” Subsequently, she continued to excel in supporting roles in movies like ” #Shikkar ” and ” #Cocktail .” Her major breakthrough came with the film ” #Biriyaani ,” for which she received the Best Actress award at the #KeralaStateFilmAwards in 2019. Despite the critical acclaim, she continued to take on smaller roles. She started doing web series in other languages from 2021. ” #OkComputer ” was the first one in which she won the Filmfare OTT Awards 2021 for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. Later, she did ” #Maharani ” for Sony LIV. 2024 has been the best year for Kani in her entire career. Her three web series, “#KillerSoup ,” “#Poacher ,” and “#ThalaimaiSeyalagam ,” were released back-to-back on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Zee 5, respectively. Her roles received rave reviews from both the audience and critics alike. Her film, ” #AllWeImagineasLight ,” premiered at the 2024 #CannesFilmFestival. It was the first Indian film to compete in the main competition since 1994 and won the Grand Prix. She had confidence in performing small parts and finally started receiving recognition she deserved.
