Khyati Shree Instagram – I was taken aback with the number of foreigners I saw in Pushkar. Every little shop in Pushkar market is 50-60 year old and the shopkeepers are proud to showcase pictures of their forefathers hosting tourists in the 60s and 70s. It used to be part of Indiaās hippie trail because of the peaceful and quiet atmosphere here, but since then it has become so much more crowded. Pushkar is an essential Hindu pilgrimage site and Padma Purana talks about it in detail. A temple dedicated to Lord Brahma can only be found in Pushkar. The area around Pushkar market is an alive mix of cultures from around the world with shops selling chania cholis to low cut tank tops. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, there are temples, a mosque and a gurudwara in the same area, people are living in a peaceful symbiotic way as of today. The outer Pushkar is mostly just concrete houses, uninhabitable land and rose farms along the highways. The Aravalli hills surround this village, the nomads and tribals live in the outer deserted areas and tourists who visit them are entertained by desert camel and bike rides, tribal music and dance. Camels are fascinating but most of them are underfed and overworked. Cute cafes, occasional dip in the lake, cool evenings with drum beats at the ghats make the scorching sun bearable. | Posted on 01/Apr/2024 12:59:41
