Leah Lewis Instagram – Matlock airing this fall on @cbstv ❤️ 6 years ago, I was a part of a diversity showcase for CBS. At the time, I was open to everything and all things, but this space just felt significantly different than some before. I remember taking the metro to rehearsals everyday for two months feeling like a spring chicken playing among really experienced stallions. Nothing is promised in this life, but I remember assuring myself, “Just being here feels electric and I know this is a sign I’m on my right road.” I was learning so much, I was so uncomfortable, and having so much fun in that. (Hell, I’m still pushing through so much discomfort, learning so much and having all the fun. Party don’t stop) With investments of my time, big and small, I will always encourage myself and others to keep expanding on that idea of what is possible for you and how important it is to support and believe in others along the way. It’s that belief in yourself and others, that takes us all to places that feel downright insane, but then having the courage to fight for it anyway. Every person you get to know, every experience, every dream met with effort, is all valuable. All of it contributes to the outcomes that life surprises us with and if you carefully look, the tree is always producing fruit, both big and small. 6 years later, I had a beautiful pinch me moment the other night on the Paramount lot celebrating the 2024 Upfronts. I stood next to people I respect greatly, people that were also from that showcase, and ones from other walks of life along the way. This job of creativity can be really hard to pursue and I get really emotionally knowing everybody puts their 150 % into what they do because they believe in it so much and love it that dearly. I hope that when Matlock comes out, you feel the effort and the passion poured into this show. It really does come from the top down and I am lucky to be smushed somewhere in between.
