Mary Louis Kanellis-Bennett Instagram – Happy Mother’s Day!!!
A poem: What being a mother is to me.
I hear you
My small voice
Once loud now silenced
By the deafening screams of tiny feet
They find their footing
With the use of my sanity
Pulling and tugging the pockets
Of the small bits of self
I might have left
They rearrange me
With new DNA
While watching them play
Everything I knew
The building of you
Is the reorganization
Of my desperation
To raise them right
But oh what a magical life
To watch them grow
Not like a flower
But as a weed
Pushing through the cracks
Carrying them on my back
This role
That fills the spaces
Leaving traces
Foot assassins
Litter the floor
And I continue to give them more
That smile, that laugh
Becomes everything
Replacing the image in the mirror
With a ghost
Of the woman that was once there
With mother
And that small voice inside me
That is what’s left of who I used to be | Posted on 12/May/2024 17:17:21
