Michelle Krusiec Instagram – Happy 50 years of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women! Proud to be a part of this legacy of filmmakers committed to gender parity in cinema. I’ve found lifelong friendships and another place to call a community. My time there was imperfect, much like filmmaking. Always solving problems in what feels like a fire suit as our class had just started while the world came to a halt. But if my time there had been perfect, I would have been given the false notion that things would be easy. Instead I gained vital skills that taught me being a filmmaker always feels like the vision is within my grasp and reach, but it’s not always the case. You are forced to stretch and stay the course no matter what the unforeseeable circumstances reveal. With every project made, you grow and adapt and if you’re humble enough to learn, you get the privilege to do it again and call yourself a director. This showcase featured the next crop of talented storytellers to fill the shoes of the DWW and I wish this class and the next class my very very best in their journey! Shout out to @whysrl @jamesaheim who I worked with and lent their talents to teams @jomony and Naomi Iwamoto.
