Where I come from: Harlem Ballroom culture. We were so excited when Vogueing was to be featured on the channel 5 news in NYC. They came into our safe space and shared our talents with all of the tri state area. It was so exciting for us to share it because we knew how special it was and still is. It’s evolved a lot since the “old way” but it’s still just as fabulous and meaningful. I love this clip in particular because it shows many of my friends who are no longer with us (who were vogueing legends like Willi and Jerome), but it also shows my legendary house father @cvalentino68 DOING IT. 🖤❤️ let us never forget where Vogueing came from: Harlem. In the process of moving I am finding many, many gems. This is my chosen family, the ones that shaped me in many, many ways. I loved all of my brothers and sisters. Never a fight, only love, laughter, total acceptance and of course the occasional SHAAAAAADE. NO ONE could read like they could! Those times were so special. Too many gone too soon. Yup, house of DEL RIO before house of Magnifique!!! (No relation to Bianca, kids…. This was ballroom) Eventually my name was just Michelle Magnifique which was always shortened to “Mag” as in she’s a Mag, which looking back wasn’t the best if you say it out loud 😂🤣 for obvious reasons 👀

My house father @cvalentino68 used to brag about the fact that I could vogue in a micro mini and 6 inch stilettos and never show my cookies. Next up: channel 7 news in NYC 1988. The legendary vogueing icon and my house father @cvalentino68 and I along with Kevin Milan and Jerome Pendavis (my siblings in ballroom RIP ❤️) were vogueing the house down for our diva who kept us all employed @bartschland at the Copa. We knew we were fierce, the world just needed to catch up. This was PRE Madonna Vogue madness, so it was still very odd to most onlookers who weren’t clued in on the ferocity
