Regina Hall Instagram – Happy to be back for another week highlighting incredible #BlackWomenInGreenSpaces. This week I’m dedicating my #WCW to Freweyni Asress (she/her), a.k.a. @zerowastehabesha, an ecosocialist who began her transition to a zero waste lifestyle in January 2016. Freweyni is the founder of the Zero Waste Habesha (named in homage of her Ethiopian roots), an online community of Black and Indigenous organizers, creators, and cultural workers that was originally dedicated to sharing zero waste practices but has now evolved into a force for environmental justice as well. As a community organizer and activist, @zerowastehabesha is drawn to making the zero waste community more inclusive. She does this by organizing communities to build resilience, address anti-Blackness in rural America, create resources for Black and Indigenous residents, and create and facilitate zero waste and environmental justice workshops for institutions. “It’s time to break the taboo of talking about racism. There’s not a lot of spaces to talk about these issues without feeling like you’re perpetuating the problem by talking about it, which is a total misconception.” Follow Freweyni @zerowastehabesha
