Renée Elise Goldsberry Instagram – I’ve been cranky on my birthday as long as I can remember. Too much pressure on this day to feel special, and that’s too much to ask of January 2nd—THE MOST SOBERING DAY OF THE YEAR. Feel sorry for my family on January 2nd. They try. They sing to me at some point, and I smile and say thank you, but my eyes can’t hide my disappointment that everyone everywhere is un-decking the halls and starting their diets on my day. This one didn’t start any better. My already sleep deprived family went to bed at 11pm last night because we had to catch a 6am flight home. I woke up at 1am to a drunken mob of Michigan fans who were screaming outside of our hotel room until 30 mins before our alarm. TSA chose THIS day to randomly test my hands, and for some strange reason I failed! My family looked on with pity as I was full and I mean FULL body groped at security like a terrorist, in front of hordes of strangers. ( I didn’t know they went under your shirt and waist band! Really guys?) But in the back middle of this plane I am on, the WiFi is working, and the happy birthday texts are coming through and reminding me how great this birthdate is. It’s so early in the year, a lot of people remember January 2nd! 1-2, Baby! And I always get a pre-birthday surprise party during New Year’s Day Dinner! That counts! So I’m posting my New Year’s Day pre-birthday cake, and the last moments of a spontaneous revival we had last night! (The bottle of wine opened for me was SOOOO good we had to call it communion!) I blew out that pre-birthday candle yesterday bursting with gratitude for my family and for my friends. I’m grateful that I’m never sad about getting older. I’m grateful for the MIRACLE of another year. Life is precious! Love is all around me! And there is still so much to celebrate!
