Sally Phillips Instagram – The winners of #rhschelseaflowershow are announced tomorrow but I got a sneak peak at the contenders today thanks to the excellent Gardens for Good- check them out on @project.giving.back #gardensforgoodcauses. Such a great day, lucky me. And so nice to hang out with funny doctor @michaelakadiri funny queen @elliejanetaylor dramatically skilled baker and seamstress #janeasher and Oscar nominee of the future @fehintibalogun. Also hilarious.
Project Giving Back was founded by two philanthropists who had the idea of giving the significant platform (and springboard) of a Chelsea Flower Show garden to community interest groups, educational organisations and charities within the UK so they can raise awareness and engage with their audience. Hard to believe now but all the Chelsea gardens used to be put in a skip once the week was up. All of these gardens are repurposed or relocated to a permanent home afterwards – going out when the flower show is over to schools, hospitals, therapeutic settings and community spaces so they have a long-lasting legacy.
A feast for the eyes but also the heart. Loved meeting Jessie and @officialdanielwakeford at @pulpfrictioncic Growing Skills Garden and Adil and the kids at @panathlon_international Joy Garden.
Thought of @darrenashton and all you great #survivors in the @bowelresearchuk Microbione garden – a meadow of edible flowers complete with dormouse nest and cracked hazelnut shells designed by @chrishullgardens and @sidhillecogardens . @nationalautisticsociety garden featured giant marble run, @musculardystrophyuk a beautiful haven, but was stopped in my tracks by the @freedomfromtorture Garden : A Sanctuary for Survivors by @johnwarland and @emmaoconnellgardendesign .
