I kept eye contact and stayed still and calm while slowly moving back, just as I would if I encountered a large shark. Regardless, so grateful for her coming by to say hi! I suspect the one behind us is a male stalking a curious female, hoping to mate with her. NOTE: It is Recommended to give at least 15 meters of space to the Monk Seals in Hawaii. Touching or harassing monk seals can cost you a hefty fine of up to USD $50,000 and 5 years of imprisonment.
