Shola Mos-Shogbamimu Instagram – I teach my children that families come as father/mother, mother/mother, father/father & single parent. I teach them that a family is more than gender/sex centred & all sexuality exist whether it resonates with your given sexuality or not. I teach them that sexuality is not an experiment so somebody else’s sexuality isn’t an invitation to differ from yours & vice versa. Yes, I’m a christian and God is centred in my belief. I teach them to come ask me/their dad questions if they feel conflicted/confused because children are processing information at at a rate today that surpasses my day. I prefer they ask me than someone outside. If I don’t have the answer I find someone I respect & trust to give them the answer. I don’t have all the answers – I pray for guidance & if I get it wrong I tell my kids I got it wrong. You won’t believe how much I have learned from my children about Trans rights. You can’t be an ally & respectful to the LGBTQIA community and say ‘except for…’. I learned this in my 20s. As parents we should unpick our learning & not pass fears, ignorance & prejudice to our kids.
