In a two and half hour concert, the Padam that comes after a long and arduous varnam encourages the dancer to continue remaining in the emotive state. It is not until the Tillana which would come a good half hour or more later that the dancer would unwind…. My fifteen year old self here is soaked quote literally in the musicality and emotion of the moment…. There was time, there was pace and patience. cut to the whole concert being 1.15 hours today. When does one get into the zone and how does one travel….? So glad I’m not a millennial born for what would I have missed had I not known three hour concerts ! #swarnamalya #texturesoftraditions

May we all retain our diversity, our cultures and yet find the resonance to mix and mingle freely to create more beautiful colours! Holi should be more WHOLLY without the divisiveness tearing us apart. Let us all remain many and yet come together with great love. Speaking this morning at The Dr Ambedkar Law University at a conference organised towards International Women’s Day.. my mind is frankly rattled. What can one speak at a time when the woman’s body, voice, mind and dignity is devoured in the name of honour, caste, religion and all other forms of hate and anger? Speak I shall though, and share my anguish, anger and some ways forward for myself and my ilk for if I stop speaking out of frustration that’s exactly what the world would want- a woman to stop speaking. Let me be Moyna – the why why girl
During Atrupadai – Arts Market during the #TexturesofTraditions culture festival, participants explored varying perspectives on space, seeing it as memory, color, or something physical. These different viewpoints led to self-reflection and a better understanding of their place in their respective fields of work. The participants discussed issues of accessibility, inclusivity, and finances in the arts and how those can be challenging due to taboos. However, the Arts Market set a precedent by fostering open discussions without judgment. These conversations encouraged people to unlearn their biases, embrace curiosity, and acknowledge their role in their spaces. Arts Market will continue to grow and evolve, creating a unique space for diverse individuals in the creative sector to come together, listen, and take steps towards change. #texturesoftraditions #culture #traditions #festival #arts #roundtable #chennaievents #chennai #chennaiculturefestival #chennaiartsfestival
