During her time in office, she served on the Homeland Security Committee, the Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Financial Services Committee. From 2013-2016, Tulsi served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. In 2019, she launched her 2020 presidential campaign, becoming the first female combat veteran to run for president. In 2004, she deployed for a year-long tour to Iraq where she served as a medical specialist.
