From the moment I wake up until I go to bed, I find myself caught halfway between the world I live in and the one I’m writing. This book, lovelies. It scares the shit out of me. I found it in the months after Addie, sprouting up from the empty plot left in that story’s wake. As if it had been growing all the while, waiting for me to notice. I often say that if Addie LaRue is a book about immortality and stubborn hope, this is a book about immortality and rage. About being trapped in a body, a time, a world, a place, that tries to tell you how to want, to love, to live. A book about hunger and grief. A book about want and need. It isn’t ready yet, but every day it gets a little closer. And every day my hope grows with my fear. I know they’re wound together, weed-like, but I also know that the more a story scares me, the more I need to write it.
