Viva Bianca Instagram – I am so blessed to be a mum to my healthy, thriving (if a touch demanding) lil ducklings. And I am lucky to have my mumma bear by my side through life’s ups and downs. And my community of mum friends have enriched my life to no end (you know who you are!)
So, from my immensely privileged place, I don’t need to say more about my (messy, beautiful, hard, funny, exhausting, chaotic, rewarding) experience of motherhood today.
Instead, I’m going to get loud about the 25,000 women and children who have been killed in Gaza since 7 Oct 2023. And the surviving ones who live to tell the story.
I want to hold space for the thousands of Palestinian mothers who’ve had their greatest love taken from them, left cradling a tiny corpse. And the children who’ve witnessed the murder of their parents and are now orphaned – children who should never have been subject to this war. Pregnant women who’ve made the journey from the north to the south of Gaza, and who’ve given birth under unimaginable circumstances – many without access to doctors, nurses, midwives, anesthesia, pain medication or hygiene materials. And mothers struggling to provide food, shelter or healthcare for their young.
This Mothers Day is in honour of Palestinian women and children – who’ve undoubtedly borne the brunt of this tragic war, and, of those who survive it, whose lives will forever be shaped by the trauma of genocide.
