Happy #TransDayofVisibility. I did not realize that it was #TDOV until today. I’ve been social media dormant for the past few weeks, leaning into gratitude for this opportunity to hang back and listen, observe, and absorb. I’m thankful for my introvert nature. I dive deep within without getting lost. I accept sitting in the discomfort of not knowing. I accept the darkness I cannot touch and the awkwardness of gazing into the void together. If you are reading this, I love you. Our lives are worth more than all the money in the world. We can live holistically outside of capitalism. We can create identities that are not centered around our consumerism. This is not a dream, this is happening. Everything you need, you can find within. Work with limitation. When you hit a wall, when all you see are walls, shift your plane of gravity and make it the floor.
I loved my little girl @camilamariaconcepcion so much ♥️Camila was the first girl to call me “mama,” a responsibility I did not take it lightly. I haven’t been able to acknowledge her passing publicly for 10 days because I have been so devastated. Her death feels like a colossal loss for the whole world. Camila was brilliant — words flew through her like sacred magic, she had the sharpest self-deprecating humor, and her exuberant light was blinding. Here are some of my favorite photos of her: on set for writing an episode of Netflix’s Gentefied, hanging with my mom and my sisters on my birthday last year, her altar at home, I’m posting some of her brilliant writing (from our text threads) in my stories… Love the trans and nonbinary people in your lives, friends, and know that our struggles are often gracefully concealed. We claw out space in a society that has no place for us and actively attempts to eradicate us. Even in the best circumstances we are swimming upstream.
