If you know you know. It was and is a VERY big deal.
Parenting is so fucking hard and the most rewarding and important thing I’ve ever done. No surprises there, many parents share that sentiment. I’m so grateful that I get to be with my favorite human. Look, no one is perfect, but you either love someone that much or you don’t. And we missed so many years together, we have a lot of living to do.
No one has made my life better than this young man. All the good things, all the stuff I’m proud of is because of my relationship with him.
To be patient, tolerant, understanding.. to contemplate selflessness, to grow my empathic muscles, to want to model behaviors, to teach, to be less reactive, to share… I could go on and on. I’m better at all that because of him. Was it a cry fest for me at the airport? Yup. I’m still not recovered either. We have a lot of work to do together too. This is the beginning. That’s the journey of life. New beginnings with the people you love. Make that your horizon line and never stop moving towards it. Never give up. Never lose hope.
