Benjamin Law Instagram – There is going to be so much tedious, braindead commentary over whether what Sam Kerr said to a British police office is racist, over the next few weeks.
Before we weigh in, can we agree that racism is a form of oppression and abuse of power? (Or, as @renieddolodge memorably pointed out, “prejudice plus power” equals racism.)
Is “white bastard” a prejudiced thing to say? Yes. Do we want kids calling each other “white bastard” in the playground? No.
But that’s not what happened here.
In this situation, who was oppressed and who was in power? A white British police officer or a brown woman disputing a taxi fare?
