My first post for 2023! Saying that 2022 was an amazing year would be an understatement. Not only was it life-changing, but also filled with growth and maturity in my queer journey. After the Drag Race finale, I took it upon myself to place my mental health in the forefront and to do so I had to make some tough decisions before entering 2023.
Unfortunately I’ve always been a people pleaser and this got in the way of me truly living. I’d say it’s the way I was raised. It was truly hard for me to watch the show back episode after episode because although I was fully being myself, I saw that young Caribbean boy fighting his inner demons; insecurity, shame, timidity, and self doubt.
I’ve had to pull away from some circles, friends, family; all just to really focus on me and understand the way my brain is wired. Daily walks that lasted for hours on end, hiking in my local park and yelling to the top of my lungs, meditation that led to non stop crying and reconnecting with Akeem.
Most people will never understand but to find balance in a busy life is seriously the most important thing one can do for themselves.
Ever since prioritising myself, the veil has been lifted off. My past trauma had me as the punching bag and it was time to face it head on. Anything that scares you, will change you …and trust me pain will change you.
I feel an illuminating switch happen in my spirit and finally feel sweet release. It’s a feeling that I can in the best way describe as growth and purpose! I am ready to take on the world while doing what I love. MY happiness, MY joy, and MY well-being will always come first no matter what. Life will not throw at you what you can’t handle, trust the process 💎 ✨
