Costa Georgiadis Instagram – Australia has some of the tiniest bees in the world ! Euryglossinae is the most diverse subfamily of bees in Australia, and is endemic, yet few people even know about them. Most are tiny, less than a cm, and the smallest is a mere 2mm long! These gorgeous bright yellow bees, Brachyhesma sulphurella, are very hard to spot, and they forage on similarly coloured Melaleuca . Almost all Euryglossines are oligolectic -specialised pollen foragers, yet go unconserved.
