Dan Harmon Instagram – This is a clip from The Blue Dahlia (1946, Veronica Lake) and yes, this is apparently the movie that inspired the media to dub the Black Dahlia the Black Dahlia which cody had to explain to me but that’s not why i grabbed this clip. I grabbed this clip because WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE TECHNOLOGICALLY. Cody was like “it’s a recorder” and I was like okay but does the recorder hire a different actor to repeat your lines over the phone? Or is it just a monitoring device, like a baby monitor, but in that case, how weird is it that the other guy on the other end of the phone is technically pretending to be the guy he’s monitoring? Do my questions even make sense? The thing that came to mind when I saw this was that Arthur C Clarke quote (googling it): “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” But this is an amazing case of technology being so UNADVANCED that it seems magical to me. Like, is it like the hat from Harry Potter? Something very strange is happening in this scene and it is not what this movie is about (it’s about a Blue Dahlia) and it is never explained in the movie. There is a suspect subsequently that points at the device the way you might a bug and says something indicating that he’s savvy about its function but he doesn’t explain what the function is. Like, I really don’t know what this thing is but I love that it has two giant plugs on it that are like the twin earphone plugs on an airplane. Discuss. Explain. Theorize. | Posted on 06/Mar/2024 06:51:57
