But, it’s better to discuss what exists than to deny it. Tolyamory is a VERY common phenomenon, born from a society that attempts—unsuccessfully, of course—to enforce monogamy as a one-size-fits-all model.
Also considering the impact of vastly unequal power dynamics, especially between people of different genders and socio-economic statuses, many people end up in situations where they feel like they have no “good”—or better—option.
My hope is that this new media coverage of #tolyamory will bring more attention to the failures of mononormativity and the need for broader acceptance and normalization of #ethicallynonmonogamous ways of relating—so that we can all create more honest, transparent, and healthy intimate relationships! 😍
