Dick got his start in radio, and eventually moved on to a nearly 70 year career in show business. Though he is a highly awarded actor and best selling author, he remains down to earth and committed to philanthropy. Dick has partnered with the Midnight Mission for over 20 years, serving meals within the L.A. community on every holiday. “It doesn’t feel like the holidays until I’m at the Mission”, says Mr. Van Dyke.
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Dick Van Dyke, you know that the energy in the entire room changes. Positive energy radiates from him and throughout each person in his proximity. You’ll rarely see anyone nearby without a giant grin on their face.
Dick is often asked about his secrets for longevity and happiness. His response, “I am a child in search of his inner adult, though the truth is that I’m not searching too hard. I don’t recommend anyone doing so. That is the secret, the one people always ask me about when they see me singing and dancing, whistling my way through the grocery store or doing a soft shoe in the checkout line. They say, “Pardon me, Mr. Van Dyke, but you seem so happy. What’s your secret?” What they really want to know is how I have managed to grow old, even very old, without growing up, and the answer is this: I haven’t grown up. I play. I dance with my inner child. Every day.”
