I am heartbroken over the death of 25-year-old Samuel Sterling. His life was tragically cut short, and his last words were a heartbreaking plea to the officer, asking why he hit him. He was killed in Kentwood, MI near Grand Rapids. We must demand justice and accountability for Samuel and all victims of unlawful violence, including holding accountable those who are meant to protect us. #JusticeForSamuelSterling

“Did you do the right thing when it mattered?” In light of Trump’s recorded attempts to pressure Michigan election officials and cast doubt on the integrity of Detroit and Wayne County votes and disenfranchise our voters— I want to make this clear: I will always fight for the people of Detroit and all Michiganders. As Democrats, we must stand up to anyone who smears us and now seeks our support. We must always ask of anyone who is seeking our votes—Did you do the right thing when it mattered? Clearly, he did not then, and by being here pandering and attempting to erase history, he is not now. Together, we will protect our democracy and our communities from frauds who say one thing, and do another— like him.

I had an amazing time at the Michigan Central Station grand opening concert! It was incredible to be with so many folks from across the state and see performances by Diana Ross, Big Sean, Jack White, Fantasia, Common, and Jelly Roll. One of the highlights was a heartwarming tribute to Bob Seger performed by Jelly Roll, Fantasia, and Melissa Etheridge, produced by Eminem. This event beautifully showcased the importance of preserving Michigan’s history. Repurposing and reopening the Michigan Central building, which hadn’t been open since 1988, is a perfect example that investing in communities and infrastructure is an investment in our future.
