Jack Aitken Instagram – The streets of Detroit bit hard, heavy contact with walls, cars, we were lucky to come through and survive on our way to P6! Plenty of hard battling with it being a sprint around a street circuit where overtaking never comes without some risk, but it was rewarding, and plenty learned yesterday afternoon.
We took a while to find our groove this weekend, and a lack of pace early on combined with a rare mishap from Pipo in qualifying had us starting plum last. Due to that, we tried an alternative strategy hoping for a caution that didn’t quite come at the right time. At this point (halfway in the race) we were staring down the barrel of a last or near-last finish. Luckily we chased down the pack with the help of some cautions, and were able to get back into the thick of it. I never think of it as fighting for P6, P8 or whatever, it’s fighting for the championship. Every point counts here, and the bad days are where you can really unravel.
