Jack Carr Instagram – So proud of my daughter and her work volunteering with the @bestdefensefoundation in Normandy, France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day assisting World War II veterans throughout close to two weeks of events.
As she did for the Pearl Harbor 80th anniversary commemoration events in December 2021 and the 78th D-Day commemoration events in June 2022, she was able to spend every waking moment with these veterans now nearing, or over, 100 years old, asking them questions and listening to their stories and life lessons of the Depression, the War and their experiences coming home to start families and businesses.
Among them are men who stormed the beaches of Normandy and descended out of the darkness in parachutes and gliders, citizen soldiers who would go on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, the Siegfried Line, the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns, Aachen, Metz, Hürtgen Forest, Market Garden, Antwerp, and on to Berlin liberating Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps.
My memories of watching her interact with the Greatest Generation will be with me forever.
