I’m a pretty privately shy traveler and move through spaces like a sbd fart and as an immigrant kid it’s always been a very complicated relationship with the motherland for me. I was born here but don’t really feel like I ever belonged here. Like telling a joke with improper timing or two left feet on a dance floor, it’s always been a slightly off sync relationship for me like when the dialogue doesn’t meet the movie frame. Any of you immigrant transplanted kids feel the same? I’m sure you do.
And the copycat culture of food and trends in Korea always annoyed me.
The passive aggressive judgements.
The pushing.
The family politics.
But this trip was a revelation.
It’s been almost a decade since I’ve been back.
Seoul has changed.
It’s grown.
I’ve grown.
And I see you like I’ve never seen you.
The food was spectacular and I even felt like I finally belonged a bit.
