Japanese astronaut and the first director of Miraikan, Mamoru Mohri, gave a message to Ryuichi when he passed away.
“In 2000, we experimented in space comparing Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music. Afterward, he correctly guessed the song that resonated with me while watching the Earth from space.
Geo-Cosmos expresses the Earth as it is now through video. I asked him if one could also express the current observation of the Earth through music. Sensitive to the global environment, Ryuichi proposed music that could digitalize nature by placing sensors all over the world and connecting them through a computer. It was the world’s first real-time music played by the Earth through cutting-edge science and technology.
