Tarang Chawla Instagram – I am in Canberra for the National Crisis Roundtable on Murdered Women.
Men’s violence against women is finally in the national media spotlight once more and we cannot afford to miss this opportunity.
Today is a big deal. I feel the weight of responsibility and am here for Niki and every victim of men’s violence and their loved ones.
Niki won’t get to be in Parliament House. Ever. She won’t get to share any of her experiences. She won’t take another breath again. And neither will all the women whose lives have been stolen by violent men.
As everyone talks to their expertise and shares their views, we would do well to listen to those who represent the women whose lives were stolen by men.
They sadly possess something others can’t. Something they would never wish upon anyone: Wisdom that comes from knowing what all could have been done – but wasn’t – to prevent the murder of a loved one.
If we’re actually serious about preventing men killing women every 3.5 days in Australia, then it’s those who knew the women and the men who killed them that we should probably listen to most.
For Niki. And all women. I hope to make you proud.
Swipe to see my Facebook Memories from yesterday. Just before I went to sleep I saw this from Niki asking me for a “warm, loving, kind-hearted speech” at her birthday party. Yeah right, lil sis. It’s always my job to roast you 😂💔🥹 | Posted on 07/May/2024 05:14:25
