Norman Lear
1922 – 2023
Norman Lear was a risk taker, a trailblazer, a pioneer.
He was one of the most important figures in Art, entertainment and culture… in American history.
I lost my father when I was 19 years old.
I have many memories of my childhood with my father… Cub Scouts, Little League, his influences on me to give back… to be of service.
One of the most vivid memories I have was watching the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite and us always, always, always watching All In The Family.
We worshipped that show!!
We never missed an episode… ever!!
They were always talking about the most important social, political and cultural issues of the time.
We were shocked, appalled, laughed, cried and learned a lot… sometimes all in one episode!!
It was so cutting edge that half the stuff that came out of Archie Bunker‘s mouth on television in the early 1970s couldn’t ever be put on television today because of our overwhelming bent towards political correctness.
I miss those days.
I miss the 70s when television, film and music was more about “something” than it is today.

I promise you you will be blown away by the topics that were routinely discussing on network television in front of tens of millions of people each week.

What a career!!
What a legacy!!
Also remember that the work he did and the contribution he made through People For The American Way has also left an indelible mark on our society.
It inspired me, many in the entertainment industry and millions of others to use their platform to be of service, to give back, to strengthen our democracy, to advance the agenda of important social and political issues. To leave our our world a better place for our children and our grandchildren.
And BTW… Lear flew 52 missions over Europe in WW II to help defeat the Nazis!!! 🇺🇸
