This past weekend, Dr. Yasir Qadhi had the immense honor and privilege of meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim for lunch and Jummah prayer. Every Friday, Prime Minister Anwar makes it a point to eat at a local place and attend a different mosque, demonstrating a dedication to staying connected with his constituents.
Despite the busy schedule, the Prime Minister continuously showed his passion for Islam through his conversations about Palestine and his concerns about the Malaysian people. While of course it is natural to disagree with some policies even of those politicians one admires, the dedication to open dialogue is something all Muslim leaders can learn from.
