“No, no I don’t want any tourist-type photos.”
I thought to myself as we entered the Taj, trying to avoid the photographers who were insistent on creating an entire sange-mar-mar portfolio for me. Honestly, I just wanted to see the monument and run back to the hotel for my corporate show. I had no time. I did feel a little guilty and wondered how the livelihood of these photographers must have been affected with the advent of smart phones. As I entered the Taj, another photographer came running up to me and went “Arre madam aap toh stand up comedian lag rahe ho!”
“Thanks, par I have a show, main photos nahi click kara paungi”, I blurted. “Are aap click mat karao par….” He paused and hesitated.
I asked “Par?” “Par ek baat batao aap woh gym wale video main toh lambe lag rahe the, ho toh chote se. Aisa kaise?
I did not know how to respond to that and I was not sure if it was a compliment. But I laughed anyway and said, “Bhaiyaa, camera ka kamal hai sab.” He still kept checking my height.
I relented and said, “Bhaiyaa aap photo kheech do, kitna hoga?”
“Aree aap se nahi lenge”, he said.
“Nahi nahi, aap bata do please!” I insisted.
“Madam 1000 rupee hota hai.” He replied.
I was shocked. “1000 rupees?”
“Arre madam aap ek baar khichwa kar toh dekho.” He said with full confidence.
The photographs were delivered the next day at the hotel. When he was clicking the last picture, he asked me to wear my goggles. “Madam, Taj will be in your eyes!”
I think it’s photoshopped on the goggles.
He was right though. As I smiled, I realised that I did carry a lot of love in my eyes, back home. ❤️
