I’ve written a book! NO PLACE LIKE HOME will be published by @dialoguebooks on September 5 2024.
After what seems like an eternity of thinking about it, I’ve finally taken the leap, put pen to paper, and immersed myself in the beauty that is continuing to tell other peoples’ stories, but through writing.
The idea of ‘home’ is a personal one, and it can be impacted by so many different factors. From food, to phrases, places, to smells, to feelings we struggle to find the words for – I’m genuinely fascinated by the different versions of we call ‘home’, and so I decided to write about it.
I’ve spoken to lots of brilliant people, and I’m very grateful to be able to share their stories – and so alongside my experience as a Jamaican Londoner, and the experience of my parents and grandparents building a life here in London, there are stories of growing up in care, of fleeing wartorn Ukraine, of finding community through food, and more. I also discuss moments in history, and how our sense of home is shaped socially and culturally.
