Here’s the backstory: Christy Turlington Burns led about 15 of us on a learning tour of maternal health clinics in Tanzania in March and somewhere in there, I got obsessed. The thought I kept coming back to, a thought I’d had before, is a mother dying is a big deal. We do so much. And most of the deaths are preventable. It’s not one of those problems we can’t figure out how to solve. And here I was meeting the OBs and the delivery nurses and they were magnificent in both their devotion and their expertise. So I wondered with Christy if somehow the podcast could help. In the blink of an eye, we had recruited 5 friends to talk to us about their mothers as a way of reminding everyone what’s at stake with maternal health. Today we begin with Jen Garner whose mom, Pat, raised her to put family first, love the land and all its fruits and do what you can do to help out, everywhere you go. I love Jen.
