Claire Cooper Instagram – A VBAC success story

There’s hope 🤍 our special moment knowing we did it – V for victory & VBAC 🙌

For those that follow me know I previously had an emergency c section – it was not my plan & I found the recovery really really tough, it wasn’t just the initial few weeks – I later had a herniated disc & tremendous weakness.

This time round I was determined to deliver avoiding a c section. The hurdles you come across as a VBAC patient can be challenging, age being one factor! sometimes you feel like you’re saying the same thing over & in fact you are in order to get the desired outcome- repetition & research are essential! Get used to being a broken record!

I had two risk factors against me delivering vaginally.

1. My age
2. Previous c section ( rupturing & other complications)

Luckily I chose a hospital that have a passionate team for VBAC & also more importantly actually listen to their patients – of course they have to give you stats & their professional opinion – no one wants negligence on their hands but what they did offer us was space & support, they avoided pressure & they knew I was well versed on the topic, which in turn allowed us to have open conversations vs accepting a professional opinion & nothing else. Dialogue is key – educate yourself! Be informed! You can’t expect the outcome you want without delving deep into the world of risk, pros & cons & of course success!

So would I opt for a C section or a vaginal birth now experiencing both?

Hands down a vaginal birth 🙌

So to all those families out there wanting the same … it’s possible! It’s achievable, you just have to be intuitive & kind to your body & to the potential outcome.

To the team at Arrowe Park who supported with no judgement just hope & optimism, thank you! U allowed us to manifest the best birth outcome without pressing & over medicalising! I hope you have many more women with successful vbacs & this post generates eyes on the subject but also your success as individuals as well as team players – you’re an incredible bunch of Midwives & doctors!

You made it happen – WE made it happen – eternally grateful 🙏🤍
