Elle Newlands Instagram – Part of being a woman in this world is to be afraid of being hurt. To not feel safe. And instead of internalizing it, I decided to explore getting strong from the inside out.
In my job, I’m sometimes required to pretend to shoot guns and I didn’t like that in real life I had no knowledge or training with live weapons. Taking a gun safety class with Paul at @sentriinstituteinc and other actors from @bohemiagroup_ to learn how to properly load, aim and shoot a semi automatic in the range was terrifying but I did it and it shifted me. I shook and cried and had a panic attack the whole time (for many reasons) but mostly because it showed me how disempowered I have always felt. Doing something physical that I was so afraid of, showed me how I was storing that panic in my body. How passive and frozen I was in so many areas of my life. Fear of conflict magnified to the ultimate degree. Getting strong is not just about the physical. For some of us, learning not to be afraid to be fully in our body is the missing piece of the puzzle.
