Elle Newlands Instagram – One year ago, I stepped into the booth, put on this #pcap gear and began my journey in #apexlegends as Horizon. This was six months before Season 7 (so I still have my in game one year anniversary to celebrate!) and I recorded this directly after we captured both the lore trailer and Season launch trailer. During this experience, I knew in my bones that my life would never be the same and I wanted to capture this moment of joy, of pure unfiltered gratitude. And I wasn’t wrong.
On noon, November 4th 2020, Season 7 ‘Ascension’ launched and a character I had connected with so deeply through a pandemic year went public and I got to share her with the world. That’s the stuff my dreams are made of 💫
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words what lessons and gifts this journey has brought me. It was life changing and healing on a level I could never have anticipated in a time of global crisis. It brought me a character that fills my heart with deep gratitude and emotion, friends and colleagues that I love dearly, a crash course in being thrown into the public eye and a wonderful, supportive, creative, online community that I look forward to every single day. I feel like a very blessed human and I don’t say that lightly. My life wasn’t always this joy filled and so I am leaning into this and loving it with laughter and thanks for as long as it lasts because it changed me. Truth? I cried for weeks after I was announced because I was f*cking terrified! I kept thinking it was a mistake, that I didn’t deserve this. I kept thinking I would be replaced, that I wasn’t good enough. Sometimes you need to be shown differently.
If you have a dream, if you have a goal, please, never give up. I am living proof that you can come from anywhere in the world and find your bliss. If you’re struggling, or unhappy, watch this video and know that I’ve been where you are and somehow I still got to experience this. Don’t give up – we get as many shots as we want, so keep shooting for the stars. The universe has your back, I promise.
