Emma Barnett Instagram – For the last six months I’ve been working on a series of new books and I’m thrilled that the first one I’m officially sharing on my Insta feed is….
“Colour In…Manchester!!!”
🙌🏻 🐝 🙌🏻
Here she is. And what a beaut. 💪
Let me tell you some more: last year, after months walking every inch of our local area in Brixton, South London, while on shared parental leave with our newborn daughter, my husband, Jeremy and I came up with the idea of creating a very local colouring book as a way of explaining local landmarks and sights to our very inquisitive 5 year old little boy. 🙋♂️
What started out as a small home-grown project and a love letter to our local areas of Brixton and Herne Hill, has quickly grown into @colouryourstreets – a series of more than 30 hyper local colouring books covering neighbourhoods right across London.
From “Colour In Croydon” to “Colour In Walthamstow,” we are adding more neighbourhoods each week with the help of local people filled with ideas of what mural, statue and bit of the park we should photograph in their ends. People are rightly so proud of where they live and come from. Plus I think after the Covid lockdowns, many of us have dug even harder into our local areas.
People are loving colouring in the streets where they live and love- or used to live. It’s genuinely joyous hearing back from people once they receive their books and start scribbling away. Plus having a sense of place and local geography is part of the national curriculum so some bonus learning going on too…
And as of today, especially as a proud Manc, I am very happy to share our first UK colouring book outside of London, is of course my home city: majestic Manchester.
Our hope is to cover the UK so do get in touch with your suggestions over @colouryourstreets and the more detail the better. Niche is our niche.
Our Manchester book drops this evening and I would love for you to check out the rest of the family: www.colouryourstreets.co.uk
