Faith Elizabeth Instagram – I’ve been saying for years I don’t want to go the expected funding route for @asraifilm 🧜♀️ (likely failed grant applications followed by private equity investors).
But why don’t I want to raise money that way?
Well if I have investors, their needs (ROI) become priority.
Decisions have to be made that benefit the film financially- over decisions that may benefit the film & cast/crew in other ways… Like visibility.
I’ve seen time & time again filmmakers getting screwed when it comes to selling the film. They work the hardest, see the least amount of cash & then the films hardly get seen.
Films being uploaded on every TVOD service & then disappearing into the machine.
That’s not what I want for this project.
That’s not what I want for my team. 🥺
I’ve had my heart set on crowdfunding.
Crowdfunding around 100k & then using tax credits for post.
Yup 100k.
That’s a scary number.
I’ve previously raised just under 20k combined over other projects. I know how much work crowdfunding takes & how it heavily relies on the support of your communities.
I also know the cost of living crisis is a real thing in the UK right now. Many people are on tough times.
So I’m scared. I’m scared of trying to raise an astronomical amount of money. Scared of trying & failing.
Scared of looking crazy. Of bruising my ego 🤣
But you know what is more scary?
Never trying.
I actually have a plan forming, to raise enough to shoot the Victorian & 1800 Italian sequences. That’ll be around 20k. 🤞🏼
A less scary number. But still a lot.
I also have an idea for incentives- instead of 20 different options- mostly posters/hats/crap most people don’t want (& cost me a lot time & money to process 🥲)
Instead I’m going to create a mini collectible newspaper, like I made for @herclubcannes (that went down so incredibly well, even better than I’d ever imagined!! 🥰)
I’ll include mermaid artwork, delicious fantasy imagery, a mini story, a poem & some info about our team & our dream ♥️
We’d need to sell around 1k copies for that first chunk of cash.
Not a small number.
But I’m gonna try 🥹
So here’s me, putting my faith before my fear.
The work begins. 🙏🏼 | Posted on 13/Jun/2024 20:56:43
