Geetika Vidya Instagram – Barah x Barah | Gaurav Madan

I don’t know why but the films set up on the banks of Ganga, somehow end up being close to my heart, from Masaan to Mukti Bhawan, they’ve carved a special place for themselves in my heart. There’s a sense of calmness in the chaos that happens at the ghats where life and death greet each other and exchange their paths. Barah x Barah is one such film that holds your hand and walks you through the streets of Banaras.

Gaurav Madan’s directorial showcases the livelihood of a family that is powered by the dead. Sooraj is a photographer who operates a ‘Death Studio’, and clicks photographs of people during their last rites. There’s a sense of change and shift in this occupation with the modification of the banks and the rise of his rival – mobile phone, accompanied by the desire to follow the dynamic nature of change. There’s Meena who yearns to live a more upgraded life, Mansi who has created a distinct yet independent life for herself in Delhi and then Sooraj who is confused between pursuing his love for photography and being able to provide better for his family; every character in the movie is set on their own path of liberation, where in some are trying to seek it from life while others from the walls of their homes.

Apart from the protagonist’s (Gyanendra Tripathi) performance, it was Bhumika Dube’s performance that stood out for me the most. I have said it before and will say it again, Geetika Vidya is truly one of the brilliant actors we have today. Gaurav’s directorial breathes in the pauses that the dialogues carry with them. If slow burning movies interest you, catch this one is running in the theatres near you. | Posted on 29/May/2024 18:00:20
